Graduate Diversity

Broadening the Participation in Science

About Us

THE CHEMISTRY GRADUATE DIVERSITY OFFICE supports the Department’s mission of training the next generation of scientists and is committed to developing underrepresented groups within the scientific talent pool (see a Note from the Head). Originally begun as the Women in Chemistry program, this office has expanded its scope to address issues of recruitment, retention and advancement of women and minorities at the graduate level in the chemical sciences. Diversity initiatives include:

  • Promoting professional development through seminars and workshops
  • Supporting efforts of local organizations promoting the advancement of women and minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
  • Providing networking opportunities with other scientists and engineers at the university and with UIUC alumni
  • Offering individual support through advising

The goal of the office is to foster the academic and professional success of a diverse graduate student body in the Department of Chemistry.
